Small Italian shipbuilder FIM joins luxury and sporty spirit in models that brim with dolce vita and boast impressive performance

The father of Fabrica Italiana Motoscafi is living a dream, of his yachts being internationally recognized, coupled with picking some of the industry’s most prestigious prizes and having a bright future. We had a chance to speak with Italian entrepreneur in Cannes during the world premiere of their Regina (the queen) model.

How would you describe FIM and how old it is?
FIM is an emerging shipyard born three years ago from the idea of Corrado Piccinelli and Manuela Barcella. For 20 years we have set up boats for the major brands in the sector, after which we have chosen to present our own line Regina. In just two years, FIM has established an international sales network with dealers in Italy, Monaco, Spain, the Balkans, the USA and Mexico. Moreover, Vannis Marchi, the co-founder of the renowned fashion label Liu Jo, has entered the project as an investor partner.

What makes FIM special?
Our strengths are the passion, we succeed because we love what we do; care as we take care of our clients at every stage – from initial consultancy to after-sales assistance, and the importance of details.

What is your professional background?
I have been operating in the maritime services sector since 1999. He offers twenty years of experience in boat refit, new production, and maintenance, gained alongside the leading shipyards.

Can you mention the most important features of Regina?
FIM Yachts combine luxury with sportiness and the Italian Dolcevita with sea enthusiasm. The first model 340 Regina was launched in 2020. It offers the comfort of a yacht and the agility of an open. It’s a ‘small yacht’ with a dynamic and sporty line, without sacrificing luxury and refinement. 340 Regina features a spacious cockpit, which includes an optional galley, an extendable table with comfortable seating, and a chaise longue, which converts into a wide and comfortable stern sundeck. The central console all the equipment at your fingertips makes piloting the yacht simple, safe and dynamic. But what is most surprising are the interiors. The cabin height of 1.90 m and the large windows make the space welcoming and bright. The cabin consists of a dinette in the bow, convertible into a sleeping place, a bathroom with a separate shower, and two single beds aft, which can be configured into a double bed thanks to a structural insert for an additional cushion.

FIM 470 regina

This year you shined with Regina 470, the serious step for the shipyard?
The 2022 world premiere FIM 470 Regina is s conceived to make the most of outdoor spaces, thanks to the movements studied aft and bow. The aft of the boat has folding balconies and a split able solarium, two solutions that guarantee a spacious central area and great accessibility and liveability. The stern bathing platform is equipped with a lifting system that will facilitate the launching and towing of a tender or a jet ski. The 470 Regina’s bow contains the true gem of the versatility concept that enhances outdoor spaces: the lounge solarium can be split in two and moved to the sides thus creating a beach area. The designers renamed this unique configuration coniating the term Bow Life. This steppable area can be used in a variety of ways: with the possibility of filling it with seawater to create a small pool, or adding a removable table to convert it into an additional dining area. It also ensures natural lighting in the front cabin, which is situated beneath the reinforced glass. The 470 Regina is available with two Volvo Penta IPS 650 or IPS 800, reaching a maximum speed of 39 knots. All the ‘domotics’ systems and onboard instrumentations are signed by Raymarine. The standard interior layout features two luxury spacious master cabins of 2,15m height. Each cabin has its own private toilet and shower. The forward owners’ cabin includes a versatile area that can be configured, according to the owners’ needs, into an office, bar or vanity console. For customers who plan to spend the night on board with several guests, a three-cabin configuration is also available.

What would be next projects of FIM?
We will organize our boats in three lines: Regina for open boats, Contessa for coupé boats and Imperatrice for sport fly boats. In addition to the 340 Regina and the 470 Regina, the team is developing the 420 Regina, the 500 Contessa (coupé), the 500 Imperatrice (flying bridge), and plans for a 60 ft boat are on the horizon.
