The Power of Collaboration
Announced to the world at the Monaco Yacht Show, Prime Yachts is a collaborative initiative that brings together several experienced industry professionals who have pooled resources in order to offer a genuine semi-custom experience to those seeking to build a yacht. Introducing the interested parties at the press call was the highly personable Barin Cardenas, an experienced new build yacht broker based in Fort Lauderdale and Co-Founder of Prime Yachts, who through his New Yachts Company will handle sales and marketing for the organization. The basic premise of Prime is the offering of a range of flexible fully-engineered platforms – encompassing the hull and decks, and inclusive of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems–in various sizes starting with a 50 m. So, with the naval architecture and basic specifications complete, the owner is offered the opportunity to work with one of the several expert and respected designers within the group to fine tune and existing concept or create a custom exterior design. Collaborating exterior designers currently include Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture from Holland, Reymond Langton Design in London and Louis DeBasto in Miami. With the exterior design finalized, the yacht will then be constructed at the shipyard of Bloemsma Yachts in the Netherlands, earning it the prestigious ‘Dutch Made’ stamp. Designated Project Next, the 164’ motoryacht will feature 499 GT of cleverly applied volume. ‘Prime is in our minds a platform that offers so much space that it creates a 70m yachting experience on a 50m yacht’, commented Bob van den Meiracker of Azure.
Layouts have been optimized for private or charter use, while still retaining the ability to be repurposed for clientspecific interests such as health & wellness, sports enthusiasts, etc. Construction of Next is entirely in aluminum for efficiency and a Bahamas-friendly draft. The hull design follows the proven comfort and hydrodynamics of large, sleek sailing megayachts, while smart engineering keeps fore decks dry, even with vertical bow selections. Amongstthe very neat solutions included in the design is the generation of additional guest space by creating ample volume on the tank deck to fit the entire propulsion setup, as well as the multi-functional use of the forward tender garage as an impressive 7.7 m swimming pool. As the owner specifically requested panoramic views, bulwarks have been lowered and all exterior furniture will follow a low profile. Virtually all the luxury areas above main deck are surrounded by full height glass, creating refreshingly bright interiors and clear views all around. The open-plan layout in the main salon and dining area enhances the experience of a full panorama even further, whilst the sky lounge–somewhat unusually and excitingly facing the bow–offers the perfect spot to enjoy the views whilst cruising to the next exciting destination. With the owner’s stateroom and guest cabins all located on the lower deck with a direct, same-level corridor straight through the beach club, the comfort for guests on board was maximized. As previously mentioned, construction will take place in The Netherlands at Bloemsma Yachts, now helmed by Daan Balk, a 7th generation Master Builder.
