Axopar 45 XC Cross Cabin boasts elegant Scandinavian interiors and innovative solutions is the ideal boat for unbridled adventurers

If we could name one builder whose projects have redefined the open cruiser with outboard engines trend and gave it its 21st century style, it would be the Finnish Axopar. Their latest model, Axopar 45, takes another step in that same direction.

The largest Axopar so far debuted in Cannes in the version XC Cross Cabin, with a superstructure that can be fully closed, which makes this the first model with outboard engines with a walkaround deck.

This layout makes the model easy to adapt to various types of cruising and various climates, thanks to the two-part roof and side door of the superstructure. Those who would still rather cruise on an open can pick one of the other version; Cross Top, Sun-Top, T-Top and Spyder.

The unit we tested in Cannes had an almost totally glazed superstructure, with a roof that opened and a gently tilted windshield, altogether offering a somewhat more refined version of the typical Scandinavian no-nonsense cockpit. Side passages with door slope downwards, serving as a side deck and as the plank leading to the walkaround passage. On the bow, a large double-level sunbed hides the latch leading to the bow cabin below.

On the very, very sharp bow, the anchor disappears when not in use. Walkaround passages lead directly to the aft, which on the unit we tested served as an al fresco dining space, with a folding table and a sofa. Optionally, the aft can be empty, or turned into a cabin, in which case the superstructure is a bit linger and a bit taller.

The cabin in the cockpit is sophisticated, serving both as the cockpit and the cabin, with a C-shaped sofa and a folding dining table. Inside, there is a bar with a grill, a sink and a cooler, easy to move and join with the table. The bridge is served by three deep sporty seats and has Simrad displays integrated into the command console reminiscent of sports cars.

To the left, the entrance to the bow cabin is well hidden from view, while the cabin itself has a large double bed and a small sofa, and is served by an en suite. In navigation, Axopar 45 XC Cross Cabin is safe and solid, but at the same time feels light and dynamic, especially in turns. It maintains speed with ease, turns swiftly and slices the waves very efficiently.

We reached maximum speed of 43 knots, with six passengers aboard. Interestingly, the new Axopar 45 XC Cross Cabin does not declare a cruising speed, maintaining identical consumption (4-4.5 l/nm) at speed ranging from 20 to 35 knots, with 3 x 300 hp Mercury Verado.

This interesting boat is equally suitable for a superyacht tender, or as a two-cabin cruiser, and is bound to become a referential model for versatility, design and efficiency in the industry, inspiring many copies.
