There are tours and there are experiences that change your perception of the place you visit, of traveling and ultimately of luxury itself. That’s what the Krka private experience by Šime Petrović does. This is a man who grew up next to the Krka National Park and now lets his guests experience the things that have become the most valuable in these hectic times: silence, space and a feeling of complete privacy in nature.

There are many reasons for this, but the main one has got to be the tour’s creator, the man known by most yachting professionals in the Adriatic, as well as by many satisfied guests, as Šime Skradin.

What is probably the most beautiful trip in Croatia was born from 30 years of experience working with demanding guests, and the thing that makes it special is the privacy that clients get within the national park, while the falls are teeming with people in the heart of the season.

Skradin: Entrance to Krka private experience

The tour starts in Skradin, a little town linking the sea and the mouth of the Krka River. Even though some see it that way, Skradin is not just a stop along the way to the waterfalls, but a place teeming with layered history. Formerly known as Scardona, this was first an Illyrian and then an important Roman settlement, while today, it’s one of the most charming Dalmatian towns and a spot yachting routes never miss.

The tour takes you along the river to the island of Visovac and the Roški slap and Skradinski buk waterfalls, but what stands out is the way these destinations are reached. These aren't your typical group tours, but personalized luxury, tailored to each guest. This way, the carefully selected stops along the national park become private oases of tranquility, and passing under the waterfall is bound to take your breath away.

The Skradinski buk, the most well-known and longest travertine waterfall on the Krka, is first heard and then seen. This is when most visitors witness the crowds and commotion, but not Šime’s guests – the only sound they hear is the gurgle of water crossing travertine barriers because they visit this location later in the day. The Roški slap and several smaller waterfalls along the river are visited before this. Šime guarantees that no other people will be encountered during the tour. How does he do it? Thanks to years of experience with logistics and river tours, you get a nearly cinematic experience: the waterfall in front of you, the cascading water and the feeling that you're the only one experiencing this.

Exploring Visovac

Visovac, the island in the middle of the lake, is a space that has deep religious and cultural value, with a Franciscan monastery that has been home to manuscripts, incunabula and religious heritage for centuries. With obvious love for what he does, Petrović tells us that this is a space where the noise in the minds of those lucky enough to see it fades away, and the religious among them use this time for prayer or meditation.

Traveling further to the Roški slap shows a different face to the river. The Krka is unique for the continuous travertine formation process; the waterfalls have a mystic aura and the view is constantly changing. Lunch at the Skelin mill – served at either the start or end of the trip – takes you on a culinary journey through homemade specialties and offers a genuine taste of Dalmatian gastronomy. The real secret are not pretentious recipes, but an uncompromising quality of authentic ingredients and an almost surreal, liberating feeling of dining while the cold Krka River flows next to your feet.

World-renowned names and Krka private experience

This level of privacy that is difficult to achieve nowadays has attracted a number of world-renowned names. Some of the people Šime took on his tour were Steve Harvey, who often returns to Skradin and the Krka; Albert II Prince of Monaco, who, according to Šime, gave him a valuable gift as a way to say thank you; and Michael Jordan, who chose this tour last summer to experience the river far from the public gaze. Still, Šime and his experienced guides never divide guests into ‘famous’ and ‘regular’ categories. Each trip is organized in the same careful and discreet way, without fuss or fanfare.

What makes this experience truly special is not luxury in the traditional sense of the word, but the total exclusivity of space and time. Guests spend the entire river trip virtually alone, undisturbed by other ships or large groups, which means that there is no feeling that you're sharing the view with dozens of other people. That way, the Krka reveals itself in complete silence, as a private landscape belonging only to a select dozen, which is the trimaran's maximum capacity.

That solitude is the true currency of luxury, aligned with your own preference. There’s only the canyon, water calmly flowing through centuries and a host who knows its every turn well enough to provide his guests with the rarest of commodities: the feeling that, even for a couple of hours, they are truly unique in one of the most famous Adriatic locations.
