Italian builder Ferretti have designed their first yacht with focus on environment: the new 90-foot Infynito line was presented at Cannes 2023 under the motto ‘further than you can Sea’. We had the opportunity to take it out for a ride in Venice

The Infynito 90: Setting New Standards in Yacht Design

In the year since its debut, the new Ferretti Infynito 90 has been sold in five units, and is now getting ready to welcome a smaller sister, Infynito 80, also ready to debut in Cannes. The first thing we’ve noticed is the model’s closed bow deck, with a bow design that will surely take off in the industry.

What we didn’t notice at first, was the designers’ focus on the environment – a full package of environmentally friendly cruising solutions. Among the most significant is the integrated system that stores solar energy collected by photovoltaic panels generating 7.3 kW, installed on the roof of the yacht, in an energy tank composed of 16 lithium batteries of 120 KWh each, which provides eight hours of autonomous operations for all systems, without emissions or noise.

Interestingly, the batteries have been placed in a submersible tank that protects them in case of a fire, developed for the electric-powered model Riva Iseo. Special attention has also been paid to the use of green materials, such as natural fabrics and bamboo, regenerated leather and recycled materials, environmentally friendly water-based paint and exquisite laminated teak with FSC 5 certification throughout the exterior.

Hull number four, which was built for the American market, was on display in Venice. The first model had a jacuzzi on the bow, while number four had a bar and four bar stools, as well as a fixed windshield.

On the prototype, the bow cockpit which Ferretti describes as an all-season terrace, naturally connects to the main deck by electrically lowering the bow windshield, a lovely and smart detail.

The model is also available is with sunbathing area instead of a jacuzzi/bar, and on the very bow there is another nice sunbathing area, that covers the anchor winches. The actual terrace is a stern, with a glass partition overlooking the platform, and furnished with two plush sofas and a large sunpad. In the closed part of the stern, there is a garage for the Williams 415, while the jet-ski (optional) is housed on the aft platform.

Interior Design and Layout

In the main deck salon, there are two sofas on the left, and a sofa and a day bed. Mid-ship to the left lies a modern galley with access to the deck and a hidden ceramic cooker, while opposite stands an exquisitely designed staircase lined with gray fabric and beige leather details, leading below deck and to the fly bridge.

There is also enough space for a day head, a very important detail for pleasing day cruising. In the bow of the main deck there is a full-width dinette with a view of the bow, with a dedicated exit to the deck starboard, as well as a very practical pantry with a wine cooler, a microwave and other kitchen utensils, ideal storage room for the daily needs of the crew.

Ferretti Infynito 90 is available with five cabins, with the master located in the bow part of the main deck and four guest cabins below deck. The master is aft, full-width, furnished with a vanity, a small couch right next to a window, ideal for quiet reading. The VIP is in the bow, with a bed perpendicular to the longitudinal line of the hull, and a private head in the very bow. The third cabin is a twin, with and the fourth has Pullman beds.

The interior is soft and rounded, in gentle gray and beige tones, soft leather and plush fabrics, and the model is available in two versions, Classic and Contemporary. Although they are both unmistakably Italian in style, Classic is warm and earthy, while Contemporary dazzles with fabrics in refreshing shades taken from the sea itself.

First Ferretti With a Sky Lounge

The huge glazing that runs the length of the main deck lounge, as well as the Sky lounge, is impressive in design and allows natural light inside. On the upper deck, the salon is accessible via the interior staircase, or from the aft deck.

This is the first Ferretti with a sky lounge and an enclosed wheelhouse on the upper deck. Right behind the wheelhouse, there are a large TV and sofa on the left, as well as a large round dining table, while the open part of the upper deck charms with several lovely chaise lounges, and a bar with a sink, an ice maker and a refrigerator.

Performance and Handling: A Smooth Rider

We tested the new Ferretti with a wind of 10 knots and not perfectly calm seas, but thanks to her three gyroscopic stabilizers, the yacht remained perfectly stable.

Ferretti Infynito 90 can be powered by two 1550hp MAN V12 engines or two 1800hp MAN V12 engines, ours being the latter. At 1000 rpm, we reached 10 knots of speed, with a consumption of 50 liters per hour, ideal speed for longer cruises. At 1400 rpm, the speed rose to 13 knots, and the consumption to 135 liters.

We achieved the declared cruising speed of 18 knots at 2100 rpm, with a consumption of 500 liters per hour, and 75 percent engine load. The maximum speed we achieved was higher than predicted – 23 knots at 2390 rpm, with a consumption of 700 liters.

Although performance will not be the main draw, we were also impressed to see how she handles the seas, and we have no doubt in the future success of Ferretti’s new line.
