Behind the Scenes of Greenline Design With Marco Casali
Italian designer Marco Casali has been passionate about aesthetics since childhood. Today, as the founder and owner of Too Design, he stands behind more than one thousand yachts, still sailing the world. During his long partnership with Greenline, Casali has given their models a mix of classical Italian elegance and innovative hybrid technology.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE GREENLINE 42 IN ONE SENTENCE?
Perfect home at sea.
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT ITS DESIGN AND YOUR APPROACH?
It is surely a project where we designed from inside to outside, thinking about real time and comfort onboard.
WHICH ELEMENTS OF THE GREENLINE 42 CAN BE CUSTOMIZED BY THE OWNER?
The cockpit is really offering a wide possibility of customisations and considering the free connection of it with the galley-saloon area it is really allowing to to create your personal day space.
WHAT WERE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU FACED WHILE DESIGNING THIS MODEL?
Clearly we were following a super successful product so it wasn’t easy, we tried to elevate the yachting experience on every field and clearly we tried to create a new timeless shape for her.
SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPONSIBLE YACHTING ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT. HOW DOES THIS INFLUENCE YOUR MATERIAL CHOICES AND OVERALL DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?
It si clearly the base of our design while working with Greenline. On material side the wonderful craftsmanship and experience of the shipyard was already a reference for us on the design side instead we tried to implement it with more modern shapes and with important functional evolutions like the side sliding windows in the galley area.
HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE THE PHILOSOPHY OF SUPERYACHT DESIGN INTO SMALLER GREENLINE MODELS?
Sea living is incredibly an experience not connected with length but with quality…
THE GREENLINE 58 FLY MARKED THE BEGINNING OF YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH GREENLINE YACHTS. HOW HAS THE DESIGN LANGUAGE EVOLVED SINCE THEN?
We started working on the interior of the Greenline 45 that was our first collaboration and surely while doing the Greenline 58 we spend a lot of time together with the wonderful Greenline team for deciding a path of what is the real heritage of the shipyard. With this clear vision we created the 58 but the 42 is following exactly the same established path, modern functional with a clear design accent and a timeless heritage
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES A GREENLINE YACHT A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR OWNERS COMPARED TO OTHER YACHTS IN ITS CLASS?
The focus on real life onboard. From big to small things it is thought as a family boat focused on the cruising and sustainable sea living experience, really far far away from a typical ‘look at me’ yacht.
WHAT DESIGN DIRECTIONS OR INNOVATIONS ARE YOU EXPLORING FOR FUTURE GREENLINE MODELS?
I can tell you but for now its a company secret…
LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE FUTURE OF YACHT DESIGN?
The future is surely focusing on affordable targets. Life at sea is changed and technology is now offering the possibility of spending more time on board with your beloved. This has a clear effect on our design that should provide more than just a few days in the week end experience. The market is also full now of ‘green washing products’ and after the first revolutionary phase of looking at green boats now Owners are looking at what is really green and useful with a deeper understanding of real sustainability. This for sure is rising the expectation on our designs… and we love this.
