The defining quality of a high-performance chase boat or tender is balance: between speed and seaworthiness, comfort and capability, proven engineering and flexibility. That philosophy underpins the development of the all-aluminium Tykun X, a 10.5-metre model that translates military-grade know-how into the superyacht world.

Rather than a static debut, the first hull was demonstrated at the Monaco Yacht Show, where it showcased both its practical layout and impressive performance. Behind the project is MED Group, a Cervia-based shipyard with more than a decade of experience building high-speed aluminium vessels for public authorities and the armed forces. The Tykun range was developed with architect Tommaso Spadolini and strategic advisor Benedetta Iovane, with additional 8-metre and 12-metre versions already planned.

For MED Group CEO Marco Galimberti, the move into superyachting was a natural evolution. ‘More than 90 percent of our work has been military, so applying that expertise to superyacht tenders felt like a logical step,’ he says. Aluminium was central to the concept, offering strength, lightness, repairability and a high degree of customisation, whether for fast transfers or refined dayboat use.

Apart from the carbon-fibre hardtop, the Tykun X is entirely aluminium. The twin-stepped hull, derived from a proven military platform and designed by Carlo Bertorello, delivers notable seaworthiness. In flat conditions, with twin Mercury Verado 400 engines, the boat has exceeded 52 knots, with confirmed potential of up to 55 knots. More importantly, it remains composed and comfortable in rough seas, maintaining control and stability across a wide cruising range between 25 and 40 knots.

Beyond performance, the Tykun X is conceived as a versatile guest platform. Drop-down bulwarks extend cockpit space at anchor, while the configurable layout includes convertible seating, generous sunpads and a compact cabin with a head and V-berth. A wet bar and ample storage further support its role as both tender and dayboat. Optional clears can enclose the helm for protection in variable conditions.

Customisation is fundamental to the project. ‘In our world, every build is already a one-off,’ Galimberti explains. ‘That approach naturally defines the TYKUN series.’ Owners can choose between the core TYKUN Boutique line or the more bespoke TYKUN Atelier, allowing close alignment with the mothership’s design language.

Looking ahead, MED Group has already engineered a hydrogen-powered Tykun , using fuel-cell technology developed for America’s Cup chase boats. The concept has been pre-certified and recognised with the Blue Wake Award for Tenders and Water Toys at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show, signalling a clear commitment to future-ready propulsion.
