Monte Carlo Yachts 65 Review: Not So Small

3 minutes

Monte Carlo Yachts 65 is a little jewel that completely won us over with its eccentric design and endless interesting, fresh solutions inspired by large yachts

The star of the 2015 Split boat show was without a doubt the lovely motor yacht Monte Carlo Yacht 65 – even though the little lady debuted two years ago. Interesting to us for two reasons – the first being that it was the debut for the Italian builder here in Croatia, the other that it served to announce the debut of a larger model late in July – this lovely yacht is rather representative of the brand despite its size.

Monte Carlo Yachts 65 is known as the ‘mini mega yacht’

Mere 65 feet long (just under 20 meters), the Monte Carlo Yachts 65 boasts every element that makes larger luxury yachts… well, luxury yachts – which is a feat in itself, as cramming all of the lovely features in almost half the size of a regular yacht is anything but easy – and manages to add a few unique details.

First things first: the Monte Carlo Yachts 65 has all the brand trademarks – the flush deck bow, the round side portholes, the carbon hard top on the top bridge.

Just like her larger sisters, the Monte Carlo Yachts 65 can be customized, and the owner can select not only the fabrics and the furniture, but decide where to place the galley, or what color to paint the hull.

Classical layout with three cabins

The yard suggests several colors, but ultimately is ready to paint the hull in any color or color combination the owner chooses, giving everyone a chance to create their own, completely unique yacht, which some owners cherish more than almost anything else.

The invisible parts of the Monte Carlo Yachts 65 have also been inspired by larger yachts, primarily the engine room and the adjacent double crew cabin, as well as the automation systems by Böning. Another ace up this yacht’s sleeve is the price – just under two million Euros – which we can only describe as extremely competitive considering all the lovely design and the smart and useful technical solutions.

The yacht we tested had the classical layout with three cabins on the lower deck, among them the largest the owner suite, covering the width of the hull. The main deck was divided into two sections (bow and stern), on two levels, and the interior contemporary.

The owner of the yacht chose different shades of brown and steel blue, plenty of high-quality leather and some light elements to create contrast, while the designer duo Nuvolari and Lenard did their best to interpret their wishes without breaking with the brand tradition.

Impressive master cabin

The yacht had a Portuguese bridge and a delightful cockpit on the bow, with hidden lighting. Our favorite part of the yacht turned out to be the upper bridge, offering the usual – seating and sun beds – but in unusual dimensions and number.

Monte Carlo Yachts 65 speed and consumption

We were also delighted by the frugal spirit of this lovely little yacht – at 20 knots of speed we registered just under 100 liters per engine.
Maximum speed of the Monte Carlo 65 is listed as 30 knots, and the yacht reaches them fast, without twitches, loud noise or vibrations, in part thanks to the dynamic flaps and the Böning systems.

Our two technical favorites during the sea trial proved to be the additional command post astern and the Dynamic positioning system, used to keep the vessel in place without physical anchors, using only the bow and stern propellers and GPS.
