Elan Yachts Debuts SixtyFive Performance Cruiser
Elan Yachts has launched the Elan SixtyFive, the first model in a new generation of bluewater performance cruisers. This carbon-epoxy yacht is designed for fast passages and shorthanded sailing, marking a technical step for the Slovenian yard. Larger seventy-three and eighty-foot variants will follow.
Developed with J&J Design and Guillaume Verdier, the design integrates IMOCA concepts into a long-range cruising platform. The carbon-epoxy hull is engineered for early planing, capable of speeds starting at 14 knots. Control and efficiency for small crews are aided by digital load monitoring and a custom IMOCA-derived autopilot system.
The yacht focuses on performance, handling, and comfort. The gently angled companionway provides easy flow between the cockpit and the main saloon. Lightweight sandwich-panel furniture is used below deck to reduce displacement. The layout includes an owner’s suite with a walk-in wardrobe and separate facilities for each cabin.
J&J Design co-founder Jernej Jakopin notes the design utilizes advanced simulation and hydrodynamics to create a high-speed cruiser that remains easily manageable.
Built using serial carbon-epoxy construction with vacuum infusion and post-cure, the SixtyFive features a forged steel keel fin and dual protected steering. The advanced electrical system includes digital switching, solar integration, lithium-ion storage, hydrogeneration, and hybrid-ready architecture, ensuring independence and race-bred confidence offshore.
