Environmental Challenges and the Shift to Sustainable Technologies
The whole world is facing a challenge to go towards more environmentally friendly technologies, and yachting is in a sensitive spot. In one hand, emissions of CO₂ from yachting industry are smaller than one percent of the maritime trade fleet, but it has deeper meaning. Yacht owners are financially in position to demand for better solutions, they represent noticeable and media exposed example of what can be done, and quite often we are speaking about individuals who have a serious magnitude in their everyday life and often more than just economic power and influence.
It is not a secret that the founder of Azimut Benetti Mr. Paolo Vitelli had a special bond to newest Benetti line called B.Yond, as the yacht which showed the way in technology and concept. Today, almost the entire Benetti fleet is available in hybrid versions.
Within the range, B.Yond is the family of Benetti Yachts with the most sustainable DNA, and the Benetti B.Yond 37M was awarded as the greenest model in the category for its impressive reduction of CO₂ emissions by up to 24 percent and NOx emissions by up to 85 percent. The importance of this achievement was also recognized by the owners of these yachts, who have chosen the hybrid version for six of the 12 units sold.
Sustainable Innovations and Market Success of Benetti B.Yond
The positive response of owners in support of Benetti’s commitment to reducing the emissions and consumption of cruising is also confirmed by the success of hybrid solutions for the super popular B-Now models, which extend over 60 meters in length. Precisely half of the units currently under construction are equipped with the most advanced hybrid packages. An additional perk of the capacity to cruise in electric mode is access to the most pristine waters, protected marine areas.
Benetti’s long history – over 150 years of excellence – distinguishes the shipyard as the most successful in guiding its extensive network of partners and suppliers in the development of technological solutions. Today, many of the joint efforts in progress are focused on further optimizing the energy consumption and emissions of onboard systems, a topic of pressing relevance for larger boats, which spend about 90 percent of their time at anchor.
Benetti B.Yond: Awards and a Sustainable Future
Benetti has already achieved solid results through the implementation of the ‘Zero Emission Hotel Mode’ system, in addition to advanced power management systems that include solutions that reduce air conditioning consumption by up to 80 percent and residual heat recovery systems to heat water without consuming energy.
