Impressive spanish day cruiser Tesoro Yachts T40 boasts sporty lines, a spacious cockpit and an abundance of sophisticated details in the interior, presenting the perfect combination of speed, luxury and style
Spanish builder Tesoro Yachts have only been around for a couple of years, but have already impressed the industry with two interesting models; T38 i T40. This is joint project of two experienced brokers, Juan Carlos Olivares and Andrés Martínez, who have used their extensive knowledge of both yachts and the market to create the perfect walkaround vessel, ideal as a day cruiser or a tender.
We took Tesoro T40 for a test ride around the bay of Trogir, not far from the offices of Yacht center Baotić, where this model is available for charter.
Available in eye-catching shimmering purplish hue, T40 can be customized to perfectly fit the vessel it serves. The tall sides of T40 announce aggressive sportiness even before you find out how she behaves in motion – clean hull without portholes, tall sides that almost completely cover the cabin roof from view, aggressive windshield, carbon T-top with a double Y shape base and a trapezoidal roof.
From the aft, the first thing that attracts the eye is the wide and long platform, fixed on this unit, bit available with a hydraulic lowering system as well. Interestingly, the model has the same size aft platform even in the outboard engine version.
Next to the platform, the large sunpad hides entrance to a large storage space and the engine room, with plenty of free space around the generators for repairs and maintenance.
The sundeck covers serve as dining table seating. More seating can be found next to the bar, which serves as the central part of the outdoor galley – with ceramic stove, sink and fridges – and supports the T-top. On the other side of the bar, there are the three deep, comfortable seats serving the command console. The design of these central elements allows for a lot of free space around them, and generously sized side passages.
The command console is very neat, with one central Garmin touchscreen, plotter and switches hidden from view. The steering wheel is sporty, with a leather cover, and the Volvo Penta joysticks installed rather high, for easy access and more precision in maneuvering.
On the bow, there’s nothing but another sunpad, easily accessible via two stairs, hiding a tall cabin underneath. The tall sides of the sunpad serve as protection from prying eyes and as cushions, as they’re padded and comfortable to lean on.
Simple stair lead into the cabin below deck, one single space with a double bed in the bow and two beds aft. Aft, there isn’t much headroom, but the bed is still easy to access.
The master double bed in the bow lies centrally for easier accessibility, and the entire space is made to look larger with use of light colored fabrics and natural light seeping through the skylight. The head is rather spacious for a vessel of this type and size, with a separate shower cabin, furnished in wood to match the rest of the interior.
Tesoro Yachts T40 shines in navigation, displaying all its genius. We were pleasantly surprised with her maneuvering abilities – and stayed dry even at 15 knots of strong northwesterly wind. A typical stern drive vessel, the T40 is lively, reacts promptly, turns safely despite the dangerously looking tilting.
Excellent design of the cockpit and the seating makes passengers feel safe even during sharp turns, which comes in handy, as the model was made for speed. With two 30-hp Volvo Penta D6-380 engines, our Tesoro Yachts T40 reached 40 knots with almost full fuel tanks, and maintained cruising speed of 27 knots using 88 liters of fuel per hour. In the marina, we managed to get around using only the joysticks, which we found precise and easy to use.
Superb hull design, safe – and dry – navigation, and unique design elements make Tesoro Yachts T40 a little Mediterranean treasure well worth discovering.
